The day it began

It all began with the decision to become healthy and active. I began to do short runs and eventually found myself doing Mudruns. I had a couple of high school buddies who invited me to do the Warrior Dash March of 2012. I ended up doing several mud runs and in that time I discovered Terry Hershey park where I began to do some mild jogging out there. I posted on Facebook about it and my cousin said she would join me if she biked it. In that innate moment I went out and purchased a mountain bike. I remember going out there for the first time and struggling to complete 3miles. The slight hills as I would call them forced me to get off my bike and walk up them. I no longer call them hills...I'll explain later. I would ride when I could and even road with an old college student of mine. He was a great motivator until I ended up riding more than he did. I give him credit to getting out there in the cold and forcing me to ride. I even tried to get my roommate to come out and ride. That didn't take. I would find myself riding at all crazy hours of the day. It became a drug, it became my addiction. I remember slowly progressing. 10miles, 20miles, riding the entire Hershey trail, doing my first 40miles all on a mountain bike, and finally climbing those hills like a boss. I soon was introduced to Critical Mass Houston and my entire cycling prospective changed. My first time out at this ride was insane. I wish I had known about this much sooner. Thousands of cyclists all riding together to bring awareness for safer streets. This is where it all began and where it all continues. I have much to write that spans a couple of years now. So be patient as I continue the story...much to come..
